John Russell Dilworth (born February 14, 1963) is an American animator, actor, writer, and director. He is most famous for creating the popular animated TV series Courage the Cowardly Dog. His animated works have been shown on many TV channels around the world, including Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon, and BBC Two.

John Dilworth's Creative Journey
John Russell Dilworth was born in New York City on February 14, 1963. After finishing his studies at the School of Visual Arts, he worked as an art director. In his free time, he worked on his own animated films. He often used his own money to fund these projects.
How Courage the Cowardly Dog Began
One of his animated short films, The Chicken from Outer Space, was nominated for an Academy Award in 1996. This was a big achievement! Because of this success, Cartoon Network asked Dilworth to turn the short film into a full TV series. This series became Courage the Cowardly Dog, which many people know and love.
Dilworth also worked on other well-known shows. He helped create the original opening for Nicktoons and worked on the cartoon series Doug. He also directed the first episode of Sniz & Fondue. He even made a series of nine animated shorts for Sesame Street. These shorts were based on his independent film called "Noodles & Nedd."
Other Animated Works
John Dilworth's short film Angry Cabaret was shown on MTV in 1994. Another one of his popular films was The Dirdy Birdy. This film was shown on MTV's Cartoon Sushi and on Comedy Central.
He also worked as an animation consultant for Gumby: The Movie. Later, he was one of the directors for Drew Carey's Green Screen Show. Dilworth also helped animate and design scenes for the first two video tapes of Richard Scarry's Best Video Series Ever!.
In 2013, Dilworth appeared in the animated short film Subconscious Password. In 2017, he finished a new short film called Goose in High Heels.
