Nicktoons facts for kids
Nicktoons are awesome animated TV shows made by and shown on the super popular kids' channel, Nickelodeon. Before 1991, Nickelodeon mostly showed cartoons from other countries. But then, in 1989, they had a cool idea: to create their very own cartoons! So, on Sunday, August 11, 1991, the first ever Nicktoon, Rugrats, hit the screens. This was a big deal, and new Nicktoons kept coming out every Sunday!

What are Nicktoons?
Nicktoons are special because they are created by Nickelodeon itself. This means they have a unique style and feel that you won't find anywhere else. These shows have brought us some of the most memorable characters and stories in cartoon history. From funny adventures to exciting quests, Nicktoons have something for everyone.
Some Famous Nicktoons
Over the years, Nickelodeon has created many amazing Nicktoons. Here are some of the most well-known shows that kids (and even adults!) have loved:
- Rugrats (1991-2004): This show was about the adventures of a group of babies, like Tommy Pickles, Chuckie Finster, and Angelica Pickles.
- Doug (1991-1994): Followed the life of Doug Funnie as he navigated school, friends, and crushes in his journal.
- The Ren & Stimpy Show (1991-1995): A wild and wacky cartoon about a chihuahua and a cat.
- Rocko's Modern Life (1993-1996): Featured a wallaby named Rocko and his friends in their everyday, often strange, lives.

- Avatar: The Last Airbender (2005-2008): A fantastic adventure about Aang, the last Airbender, who must save the world.
- The Loud House (2016-present): Follows Lincoln Loud, the only boy in a family with ten sisters!
These are just a few examples of the many creative and fun shows that have been part of the Nicktoons family.
Nicktoons on the TV Channel
Did you know there's also a TV channel called Nicktoons? It's a channel that mostly shows Nicktoons! Some shows even started on the Nicktoons channel before becoming super popular.
- Kappa Mikey (2006-2008): An American actor becomes a star in a Japanese anime show.
- Random! Cartoons (2008-2009): This show was a collection of different cartoon shorts. Many of these shorts later became full series, like Fanboy & Chum Chum and Adventure Time (though Adventure Time moved to another channel).
