Jordan is a city located in Scott County, Minnesota, in the United States. In 2020, about 6,656 people lived there.

History of Jordan

The story of Jordan began on November 27, 1853. A man named Thomas A. Holmes decided to build a sawmill in the area. Because of this mill, the place was first called Holmes Mill.

One year later, Thomas's brother, William Holmes, moved to the site. He started planning out a settlement. By 1855, he had surveyed the land and officially named his new settlement Jordan City. He named it after the famous Jordan River in Palestine. Jordan City grew quite a bit in 1855 and 1856. It gained a post office and several new businesses.

In 1860, a nearby settlement called Brentwood was also planned out. For a while, Jordan City and Brentwood were rivals. However, in 1872, a special law brought them together. They became one larger village called Jordan. This joining helped the settlement grow even more. By 1880, the population had jumped to 915 people. Many new businesses also opened, including breweries. These breweries became very successful.

Jordan officially became a city in 1891.
