Jordan Lucella Elizabeth Chiles (born April 15, 2001) is an American artistic gymnast. She is famous for being part of the gold medal-winning team at the 2024 Summer Olympics. Before that, she won a silver medal with her team at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo.

Jordan also helped her team win a gold medal at the 2022 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships. She won individual silver medals in vault and floor exercise at the same championships. Jordan has been a member of the United States women's national gymnastics team since 2013. She also competes for the UCLA Bruins gymnastics team in college, where she has won several titles. She is one of only four female gymnasts to win NCAA, World, and Olympic championship titles.

About Jordan Chiles

Jordan Chiles was born in Tualatin, Oregon, on April 15, 2001. Her parents are Timothy and Gina Chiles. She was named after the famous basketball player Michael Jordan. Jordan has four siblings: Jazmin, Jade, Tajmen, and Tyrus.

She grew up in Vancouver, Washington. In 2019, she moved to Spring, Texas, to train with Olympic medalist Simone Biles at the World Champions Centre.

After the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in 2021, Jordan started her college gymnastics career at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). She paused her studies after the 2023 NCAA season to focus on the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. Jordan has confirmed she will return to UCLA for the 2025 season.

In 2023, Jordan faced personal challenges with the loss of her aunt and grandfather. She shared that her grandfather's memory motivated her not to give up.

Junior Gymnastics Highlights

Starting Her Elite Career

Jordan Chiles began her elite gymnastics journey in 2013. At the 2013 American Classic, she won a bronze medal in the all-around competition. She also earned a silver medal on vault. Later that year, she finished eleventh in the all-around at the 2013 U.S. National Gymnastics Championships. She was then chosen to be part of the Junior National Team.

International Debut and More Medals

In 2014, Jordan competed internationally for the first time at the City of Jesolo Trophy. Her team won a gold medal, and she earned a silver medal on vault. At the 2014 Secret U.S. Classic, Jordan won the all-around title. She continued her success at the 2014 U.S. National Gymnastics Championships, winning bronze medals on both vault and floor exercise. She was again named to the Junior National Team.

Continued Success as a Junior

Jordan kept achieving great results in 2015 and 2016. She won a gold medal on vault at the 2015 U.S. National Gymnastics Championships. In 2016, she helped her team win gold at the International Gymnix in Montreal. She also won the junior all-around title at the 2016 City of Jesolo Trophy, where she also earned gold on vault and silver on uneven bars.

Senior Gymnastics Highlights

First Senior Competitions

Jordan Chiles made her senior debut in 2017. She competed at the American Classic and the U.S. Classic. In August, she placed second in the all-around at the 2017 U.S. National Gymnastics Championships. She was later chosen as an alternate for the 2017 Artistic Gymnastics World Championships.

International Medals and National Team

In 2018, Jordan won a bronze medal at the Stuttgart World Cup. She then competed at the 2018 Pacific Rim Gymnastics Championships, where she won team gold, plus gold medals on vault and floor exercise, and a bronze on balance beam. At the 2018 U.S. National Gymnastics Championships, she placed second on vault behind Simone Biles. She was added to the 2018–2019 national team.

Training with Simone Biles

In 2019, Jordan moved to train at World Champions Centre in Spring, Texas, the same gym as Simone Biles. She finished sixth in the all-around at the 2019 U.S. National Gymnastics Championships and was named to the national team. The 2020 season was affected by the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States, so Jordan did not compete.

Road to the Olympics

In 2021, Jordan became the first ever women's all-around champion at the Winter Cup. She continued to perform well, placing second in the all-around at the 2021 U.S. Classic and third at the 2021 U.S. National Gymnastics Championships. Her strong performances led to her selection for the Olympic team alongside Simone Biles, Sunisa Lee, and Grace McCallum. Jordan was known for hitting every routine she competed in the lead-up to the Olympics.

2020 Tokyo Olympics

At the Olympic Games in Tokyo, Jordan helped the USA team qualify for the team final. During the team final, Simone Biles withdrew from the competition. Jordan stepped in to compete on uneven bars and balance beam, even though she hadn't warmed up for them. The United States team won the silver medal.

World Championships Success

In 2022, Jordan competed at the 2022 U.S. National Gymnastics Championships, finishing third in the all-around. She then won a gold medal on floor exercise and a silver on vault at the Paris World Challenge Cup. In October, Jordan was selected for the 2022 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships. She helped the USA win their sixth straight team gold medal. Individually, she won silver medals on both vault and floor exercise.

Pan American Games Medals

In 2023, Jordan was part of the team that won gold at the Pan American Games. She also won a bronze medal in the all-around and a silver medal on vault.

2024 Olympic Journey

Jordan started 2024 strong, placing third in the all-around at the 2024 U.S. Classic. At the 2024 U.S. National Gymnastics Championships, she finished fifth in the all-around and second on uneven bars. These results helped her qualify for the Olympic Trials. At the trials, Jordan placed third in the all-around and was selected to represent the United States at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.

2024 Paris Olympics

At the 2024 Paris Olympics, Jordan competed on all four events during the qualification round. She helped the U.S. team win their fourth Olympic team gold medal in the team final.

Jordan also competed in the floor exercise final. Initially, her score was not high enough for a medal. However, her coach appealed the score, and it was raised, seemingly earning her a bronze medal. This decision was later challenged by the Romanian Gymnastics Federation. The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) ruled that the appeal was submitted too late. As a result, Jordan's initial score was reinstated, placing her fifth, and the bronze medal was given to Romanian gymnast Ana Bărbosu. USA Gymnastics has appealed this ruling.

College Gymnastics Career

In the fall of 2021, Jordan joined Simone Biles' Gold Over America Tour. She then joined the UCLA Bruins gymnastics team in December 2021. Jordan made her NCAA debut on January 17, 2022. On February 4, 2022, she earned her first perfect ten score on floor exercise. She also won the all-around competition.
