About Jordan Chiles

Jordan Chiles was born in Tualatin, Oregon, on April 15, 2001. Her parents are Timothy and Gina Chiles. She was named after the famous basketball player Michael Jordan. Jordan has four siblings: Jazmin, Jade, Tajmen, and Tyrus.

She grew up in Vancouver, Washington. In 2019, she moved to Spring, Texas. There, she trained with Olympic medalist Simone Biles at the World Champions Centre.

After the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, Jordan started college gymnastics at the University of California, Los Angeles. She took a break from her studies after the 2023 NCAA season to focus on the 2024 Paris Olympics. She returned to UCLA for the 2025 season.

In 2023, Jordan faced personal challenges with the loss of her aunt and grandfather. She shared that her grandfather's memory motivated her to keep going in gymnastics.

She continued to be a part of the Junior National Team.

In 2015, Jordan won a gold medal on vault at the U.S. National Championships. She also earned a bronze medal on the uneven bars at the U.S. Classic.

In 2016, Jordan and her team won gold at the International Gymnix in Montreal. She also won gold on vault at this event. Later, she won the junior all-around title at the City of Jesolo Trophy, along with a gold on vault and a silver on uneven bars. She also won gold on vault at the U.S. Classic.

Jordan's Senior Gymnastics Career

Starting as a Senior Gymnast (2017-2018)

Jordan became a senior gymnast in 2017. At the U.S. National Championships, she placed second in the all-around. She was also chosen as an alternate for the World Championships team.

In 2018, Jordan made her international senior debut at the Stuttgart World Cup, winning a bronze medal. She then won team gold, vault gold, and floor exercise gold at the Pacific Rim Championships. She also earned a bronze medal on the balance beam. At the U.S. National Championships, she placed second on vault behind Simone Biles. She was added to the national team for 2018–2019.

Training with Simone Biles (2019-2020)

In 2019, Jordan moved to train at the World Champions Centre with Simone Biles. At the U.S. National Championships, she performed well, finishing sixth in the all-around. She was again named to the national team. Jordan did not compete in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Road to the Olympics (2021)

In February 2021, Jordan became the first ever women's all-around Winter Cup champion. She also won gold on vault and floor exercise. In May, she placed second in the all-around at the U.S. Classic, behind teammate Simone Biles. At the U.S. National Championships, Jordan finished third in the all-around. She was then selected for the Olympic team alongside Biles, Sunisa Lee, and Grace McCallum. Jordan was known for hitting every routine she competed in the season leading up to the Olympics!

2020 Tokyo Olympics

At the Tokyo Olympics, Jordan competed in the qualification round. Her performance helped the USA team qualify for the team final. In the team final, Simone Biles withdrew after the first event. Jordan bravely stepped in to compete on uneven bars and balance beam, even though she hadn't warmed up for them. She performed well on those events. The United States team won the silver medal.

World Champion and Pan American Success (2022-2023)

In 2022, Jordan placed third in the all-around at the U.S. National Championships. She then won a gold medal on floor exercise and a silver on vault at the Paris World Challenge Cup.

Later in 2022, Jordan was chosen for the World Championships team. She helped the USA win their sixth team gold medal in a row! Individually, she won silver medals on both vault and floor exercise.

In 2023, Jordan competed at the Pan American Games. She helped the USA team win a gold medal. She also won a bronze medal in the all-around and a silver medal on vault.

Paris Olympics and Medal Controversy (2024)

In 2024, Jordan continued to shine. She placed third in the all-around at the Core Hydration Classic. At the National Championships, she finished fifth all-around and second on uneven bars. She was then selected to represent the United States at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.

2024 Paris Olympics

During the qualification round at the Olympics, Jordan competed on all four events. She helped the U.S. team qualify for the team final. In the team final, Jordan contributed to the team's first-place finish, earning the U.S. their fourth Olympic team gold medal!

Jordan also competed in the floor exercise final. She initially earned a score that put her in fifth place. However, her coach, Cécile Canqueteau-Landi, challenged the score, and it was raised, moving her into the bronze medal position. This decision was later challenged by another country. The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) ruled that the challenge was made a few seconds too late. Because of this, Jordan's bronze medal was taken away and given to another gymnast, Ana Bărbosu. USA Gymnastics appealed this ruling, stating they had video evidence that the challenge was made on time. On January 29, 2026, the Federal Supreme Court of Switzerland partially overturned the CAS ruling and sent the case back to CAS for further review. The final decision on the medal is still pending.
