Jorge Antonio Majfud Albernaz (born September 10, 1969) is a writer and professor from Uruguay who also holds American citizenship. He is known for his novels, essays, and articles.

Early Life and Family
Jorge Majfud was born in the city of Tacuarembó, Uruguay. His family has roots in other parts of the world. His grandparents on his father's side were Christians who moved to Uruguay from Lebanon.
His father came from a large, poor family and worked as a carpenter. He later moved to Uruguay's capital, Montevideo, to study and became a successful businessman. However, he returned to Tacuarembó before Jorge was born and chose to live a simple life. Jorge's mother, Marlene, was a talented sculptor.
Education and Travels
In 1996, Majfud earned a degree in architecture from the University of the Republic. During his studies, he traveled to many places. These travels gave him ideas and material for the books he would later write.
After graduating, he worked as a professor. He taught art and mathematics at schools in Uruguay and Costa Rica. In 2003, Majfud moved to the United States to continue his education. He attended the University of Georgia, where he earned a master's degree and a Ph.D. in Romance Languages.
