Becoming a Blessed Saint
On March 27, 2013, Pope Francis made an important decision. He agreed with the findings of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints. This group studies if people can become saints. They found that José María and 521 other people were killed because of their Roman Catholic beliefs.
This decision meant they could be declared "Blessed." Being "Blessed" is a step towards becoming a saint in the Catholic Church. They were officially declared "Blessed" on October 13, 2013. The ceremony took place in Tarragona, Spain.
