Jos Wienen (born on October 3, 1960) is a Dutch politician. He is currently the mayor of the city of Haarlem.

Meet Jos Wienen, Mayor of Haarlem
His Early Life and Education
Jos Wienen was born in Ridderkerk, a town in the Netherlands. He went to Utrecht University. There, he studied history and also theology. After finishing his studies, he worked for the Dutch Reformed Church.
Starting His Political Career
In 1986, Jos Wienen began his political journey. He became a councilor for the Christian Democratic Appeal (CDA) party. This was in the municipality of Ridderkerk. In 1993, he also became an alderman there. As an alderman, he helped manage things like city planning and housing. He also worked on traffic, transportation, and local business. Jos Wienen was also a part-time vice-president for the Rotterdam city region.
Leading the Municipality of Katwijk
In 2001, Jos Wienen became the mayor of Katwijk. Katwijk is another municipality in the Netherlands. In 2006, Katwijk joined with two other towns. These were Rijnsburg and Valkenburg. The new, bigger area was still called the municipality of Katwijk. As mayor, Wienen was also part of a group that managed the Holland Rijnland region. Katwijk is part of this region. He served as mayor of Katwijk until 2016.
Becoming Mayor of Haarlem
On September 21, 2016, Jos Wienen moved from Katwijk to Haarlem. He became the new mayor of Haarlem. He took over from the previous mayor, Bernt Schneiders. As mayor, he helps lead the city and its people.
Facing Challenges as Mayor
In October 2018, Jos Wienen faced some serious challenges. He received threats that became public. This news got a lot of attention in the Netherlands. Many people in Haarlem wanted to show their support for him. They even organized a gathering in the city square, the Grote Markt. They hoped the threats would stop. For about six months, he lived in a special safe house. He had security watching him all day and night. He has since moved back to his own home.
