College and NBA Career
After high school, Forte played college basketball for two years at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He quickly made a name for himself, earning the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Rookie of the Year award in 2000. In 2001, he was named the ACC Men's Basketball Player of the Year.
In the 2001 NBA draft, Joseph Forte was chosen by the Boston Celtics as the 21st pick. Even though talented players like Tony Parker and Gilbert Arenas were still available, the Celtics picked Forte.
Forte played in the NBA for only two seasons. He played 8 games for the Boston Celtics in his first year. In his second season, he played 17 games for the Seattle SuperSonics. In total, he played 25 NBA games. He averaged 1.2 points and 0.7 assists per game. He found it challenging to switch from his natural shooting guard position to point guard. His last NBA game was on April 16, 2003.
