José de Jesús Corona Rodríguez, born on January 26, 1981, is a famous Mexican professional football player. He plays as a goalkeeper for the Liga MX club Tijuana. Corona is a true champion, having won a gold medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics where he was the captain for Mexico.

Playing for Clubs: Corona's Journey
Starting with Atlas
Corona began his football career with the Atlas club in 2002. His first official league game was on February 26, 2003. Atlas won that game 2–1 against UNAM. Corona played in 47 games for Atlas between 2002 and 2004.
Moving to Tecos
In the summer of 2004, Corona moved to the Tecos club. He played his first game for Tecos against América. In 2005, he was loaned to Guadalajara for the Copa Libertadores tournament. He played very well, especially against Boca Juniors, helping Guadalajara reach the semifinals. Corona had a great final season with Tecos before he left.
Years with Cruz Azul
On June 16, 2009, Corona joined Cruz Azul for €2.8 million, signing a three-year contract. He played his first game for Cruz Azul on August 2, 2009, winning 3–0 against Pumas. He helped Cruz Azul reach the league final that year, but they finished as runners-up.
Corona was a key player when Cruz Azul won the Clausura 2013 Copa MX in 2013. They won the final against Atlante in a penalty shootout. This was Cruz Azul's first title in 16 years! He also helped Cruz Azul win the 2013–14 CONCACAF Champions League. This win allowed them to play in the 2014 FIFA Club World Cup. Cruz Azul finished fourth in that tournament.
On May 9, 2015, Corona played his 200th league game for Cruz Azul. Even though Cruz Azul had a tough season in 2015-2016, Corona was one of the best goalkeepers. He made 60 saves and had 4 games where he didn't let any goals in.
On May 30, 2021, Corona finally won his first Liga MX title with Cruz Azul. They beat Santos Laguna 2–1 overall. This victory ended Cruz Azul's 23-year wait for a championship! Corona left Cruz Azul on June 23, 2023.
Joining Tijuana
On June 24, 2023, Corona joined Tijuana on a six-month contract. He continues to play as a goalkeeper for them.
Playing for Mexico: National Team Highlights
Early International Appearances
Corona was part of the Mexico U23 team at the 2004 Summer Olympics. He was also chosen for the 2006 FIFA World Cup squad as a backup goalkeeper. He did not play in any games during that World Cup. In 2007, he was part of the team for the CONCACAF Gold Cup.
Challenges and Comebacks
Corona was expected to be one of Mexico's goalkeepers for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. However, he was not included in the team. He was also removed from the 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup and 2011 Copa América squads.
Olympic Gold Medalist
Corona was chosen as one of the older players for the Mexico team at the 2012 Summer Olympics. He was also named the captain of the team. He led the team to the final, where they beat Brazil 2–1 at Wembley Stadium. This amazing win earned Mexico their first ever Olympic gold medal in football!
Later World Cup Appearances
On June 2, 2014, Corona was named to Mexico's squad for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. He was the second-choice goalkeeper and did not play in any matches.
On March 28, 2015, Corona was the starting goalkeeper for a friendly game against Ecuador. He made many incredible saves, including stopping a penalty kick. Mexico won the game 1–0. In May 2018, Corona was again part of Mexico's team for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, but he did not play in any games.
