Juan Gutiérrez Moreno (born on July 23, 1976), known as Juanito, is a Spanish football manager and former player. He played as a central defender, which means he helped protect his team's goal.

Juanito was known for being strong and good at heading the ball. He spent most of his playing career with Betis, a team in Spain. He played in 294 official games for them. During his time there, he helped Betis win the Copa del Rey in 2005.

He also played for the Spanish national team. Juanito took part in one World Cup and two European Championships. He was part of the team that won Euro 2008.

Playing Career: A Football Journey

Starting Out: Cádiz and Betis

Juanito was born in Cádiz, Spain. He began his football journey with the youth teams of his hometown club, Cádiz CF. In 1997, he moved to Real Betis, another team in the Andalusia region.

He spent three seasons playing for Betis's reserve team. In the 2000–01 season, he was loaned to Recreativo de Huelva, a team in the second division of Spanish football.

Juanito joined Betis's main team in the 2001–02 season. He quickly became a key player, often scoring goals from set pieces like free kicks or corners. His first goal for Betis was on January 27, 2002. It was a last-minute goal against Real Madrid that helped his team get a 1–1 draw.

In the 2004–05 season, Juanito scored four goals in 33 games. That season, Betis finished high enough to qualify for the UEFA Champions League, a big European competition. They also won the Copa del Rey, a major Spanish cup.

For the next three seasons, Betis often fought to stay in the top league, La Liga. Juanito was a very important player during this time. He only missed 13 league matches and scored six more goals. In one interesting game on April 22, 2007, he even played the last few minutes as a goalkeeper. This happened because Betis's main goalkeeper was sent off.

Moving On: Atlético and Valladolid

After Betis was relegated from La Liga in 2009, Juanito moved to Atlético Madrid. He joined them for free when he was almost 33 years old. His first season with Atlético was a bit up and down. He started as a regular player, then sometimes sat on the bench.

On April 4, 2010, he scored his first goal for Atlético. It was the first goal in a 3–0 home win against Deportivo de La Coruña.

For the 2010–11 season, Atlético had many defenders. This meant Juanito played less often. In January 2011, he left Atlético Madrid. He then joined Real Valladolid, a team in the second division.

Playing for Spain: International Career

Juanito played his first game for the Spanish national team on August 21, 2002. This was a friendly match against Hungary. His first goal for Spain came on March 1, 2006, in a 3–2 friendly win against Ivory Coast.

Juanito represented Spain in several big tournaments. He played in UEFA Euro 2004 and Euro 2008. In Euro 2008, he played in the 2–1 win against Greece. He also played in the 2006 FIFA World Cup. In that World Cup, he scored a goal with his head in a 1–0 win against Saudi Arabia. This was a special moment because it was the first World Cup goal ever scored by a Betis player.

In a qualifying match for the 2010 World Cup, on October 11, 2008, Juanito scored another header. This helped Spain win 3–0 against Estonia. Even though he helped Spain qualify, he was not chosen for the final World Cup squad in South Africa. Spain went on to win that tournament.

Coaching Career: From Player to Manager

After his playing career, Juanito started coaching. In August 2012, he went back to Betis as an assistant coach for their youth team. A couple of months later, he became an assistant coach for the reserve team.

In June 2015, Juanito got his first job as a head coach. He took charge of CD San Roque de Lepe. However, he was let go in March 2016 because the team was in a relegation spot.

On July 9, 2016, Juanito found a new coaching job with Atlético Sanluqueño CF. This team was in his home province. But he was relieved of his duties on November 10, as the team was in last place and hadn't won since the first game of the season.

After coaching in Betis's youth ranks again, Juanito moved to Belgium in January 2019. He took a job at K.S.V. Roeselare, which was his first coaching role outside of Spain.
