The Jugiong Creek is a river in New South Wales, Australia. It's mostly a perennial river, which means it flows for most of the year.
This creek is part of the larger Murrumbidgee catchment. A catchment is an area of land where all the water drains into one main river. The Murrumbidgee catchment is itself part of the huge Murray–Darling basin. The Jugiong Creek is found in the South West Slopes region of New South Wales.
Where Jugiong Creek Starts and Ends
The Jugiong Creek technically begins where two smaller creeks meet. These are the Illalong Creek and the Bogolong Creek. This meeting point is called a confluence.
The creek starts in the Burrinjuck State Forest. This area is located on the southwestern slopes of the Great Dividing Range. The Great Dividing Range is a huge mountain range in Australia.
The Creek's Journey
From its start, the Jugiong Creek flows in different directions. It generally moves north, then west-northwest, and finally southwest. Along its journey, four smaller streams join it. These smaller streams are called tributaries.
Some of the tributaries that join the Jugiong Creek are Balgalal Creek, Rocky Ponds Creek, and Cunningham Creek.
The creek travels for about 58 kilometres (36 miles). During this journey, the water drops about 175 metres (574 feet) in height. This drop means the water flows downhill from its source to its end.
Where the Creek Joins a Bigger River
The Jugiong Creek finishes its journey when it meets the Murrumbidgee River. This meeting point is east of the town of Jugiong.
The Hume Highway, a major road, crosses over the Jugiong Creek close to where it joins the Murrumbidgee River.
