Growing Up with Music
Julian Marley was born in London. He is the only one of Bob Marley's sons born in the UK. Julian was raised by his mother, Lucy Pounder, in England. He often traveled to Jamaica to visit his brothers.
He grew up surrounded by music. This helped him quickly learn and love the musical lifestyle. At a young age, he taught himself to play the bass, drums, guitar, and keyboards. By the time he was five, Julian had recorded his first demo at the Marley family home in Kingston, Jamaica.
Julian lived between England and Jamaica as he grew up. He eventually made a home base in Miami, Florida. The Marley family had their own studio there called The Lions Den. Even though Julian felt Jamaican at heart, he says his British upbringing greatly influenced his music. He shared that he feels lucky to be part of the music roots his father, Bob Marley, started in England.
In 1993, Julian moved to Jamaica to be closer to his brothers. This move inspired the Marley brothers to create their own music group. They formed the Ghetto Youths Crew with Julian, Stephen, Damian, and Kymani Marley. This project was very successful, and the brothers toured the United States for three years. Julian, also known as "Ju Ju" Marley, is a spiritual person with a musical vision. He aims to share his music around the world. He believes in letting things happen naturally as he continues his work.
