Skip Marley Minto, born on June 4, 1996, is a talented singer from Jamaica. He is the grandson of the legendary reggae musician Bob Marley. Skip has been nominated for several big music awards, including the Grammy Awards and the MTV Video Music Awards.
Skip grew up in Miami, Florida, and loved music from a young age. He taught himself to play many instruments, such as the piano, drums, guitar, and bass. He started his music career in 2015, releasing his first songs "Cry to Me" and "Life." He also toured with his uncles, Damian Marley and Stephen Marley, who are also famous musicians.
In 2016, more people started to notice Skip when he was part of a Gap clothing ad. In 2017, he signed with Island Records and released a song called "Lions." This song became well-known because it was used in a Pepsi commercial. He also worked with pop star Katy Perry on her song "Chained to the Rhythm." They performed this song at major events like the Grammy Awards. Skip released his first album, called Higher Place, in 2020. Skip Marley's Early Life and Music Journey
Skip Marley was born in Kingston, Jamaica. He was raised in Miami, Florida. He shares his birthday with his uncle Julian Marley. As he grew up, Skip taught himself to play many musical instruments. These included the piano, drums, guitar, and bass.
Starting His Music Career
In 2015, Skip released his first song, "Cry to Me." He then released another song called "Life." Both songs came out under the Tuff Gong music label. Later, he signed with Blue Mountain Music. He also joined his uncles, Damian and Stephen Marley, on their "Catch a Fire" tour.
In early 2016, Skip was featured in a Gap 1969 Denim clothing campaign. This helped more people learn about him.
Signing with Island Records
In early 2017, Skip Marley signed with Island Records. He released his first song with Island Records, "Lions," in February 2017. This song was produced by Ilya Salmanzadeh. "Lions" was later used in a Pepsi commercial called "Live for Now."
Skip was also featured on and helped write Katy Perry's 2017 song "Chained to the Rhythm." They performed this song together at the 59th Annual Grammy Awards on February 12, 2017. They also performed at the 2017 Brit Awards and the 2017 iHeartRadio Music Awards. Skip released another song called "Calm Down" on April 28, 2017.
In 2020, Skip Marley joined students from the School of Rock. They covered Bob Marley's song "Three Little Birds" during the COVID-19 pandemic.
On August 28, 2020, Skip released his first extended play (EP) album, called Higher Place. This album included songs like "Slow Down," "No Love," and "Make Me Feel." The song "Make Me Feel" featured Rick Ross and Ari Lennox.
