Kateekal Sankaranarayanan (born 15 October 1932 – died 24 April 2022) was an important Indian politician. He served as the Governor of the Indian state of Maharashtra. He was also the Governor of Nagaland and Jharkhand. Before becoming a governor, he worked as a minister in the government of Kerala. He was a member of the Indian National Congress party.

Early Life and Political Start
K. Sankaranarayanan was born on 15 October 1932. His birthplace was Palakkad in the state of Kerala, India. His parents were A Sankaran Nair and Smt K Lekshmi Amma.
He became interested in politics when he was a student. From 1946, he was an active member of the Students Organisation. This was the beginning of his long career in public service.
Serving as a State Legislator
Sankaranarayanan was elected to the Kerala Legislative Assembly (KLA) several times. He represented different areas. He was elected from Thrithala, Sreekrishnapuram, and Ottappalam. Later, he also won from the Palakkad constituency. He was always elected as a member of the Indian National Congress party.
Roles as a Minister
Sankaranarayanan held many important positions as a minister in Kerala. From April 1977 to October 1978, he was in charge of Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, Dairy Development, and Community Development. He served in ministries led by Chief Ministers K. Karunakaran and A K Antony.
Later, from May 2001 to August 2004, he was the Minister for Finance. He also looked after Excise duties until February 2004. These roles show how important he was in the state government.
Becoming a Governor
A Governor is like the head of a state in India. It is a very important position. Sankaranarayanan served as the Governor of several Indian states.
Governor of Nagaland
He became the Governor of Nagaland on 3 February 2007. He served there until 28 July 2009.
Governor of Arunachal Pradesh
He also took on extra duties as Governor of Arunachal Pradesh. This happened twice. First, for a short time in April 2007. Then, he was appointed Governor of Arunachal Pradesh again on 4 September 2007. He stayed in this role until January 2008.
Governor of Jharkhand
From 26 July 2009 to 21 January 2010, he was the Governor of Jharkhand.
Governor of Maharashtra
On 22 January 2010, he was sworn in as the Governor of Maharashtra. This was a very significant role. He served in Maharashtra until 24 August 2014. During this time, he also had extra charge as Governor of Goa from August 2011 to May 2012.
Later Life and Passing
K. Sankaranarayanan passed away on 24 April 2022. He was 89 years old. He died at his home in Sekharipuram, India.
