Joining the NFL: 2006 Draft
Even though Wimbley played defensive end in college, NFL scouts thought he was better suited for a different role. They believed he was not big enough to be a full-time defensive end in the NFL. Instead, they saw him as a perfect fit for a "rush linebacker" in a 3-4 defense. This position focuses on rushing the quarterback.
The Cleveland Browns needed players who could stop runs and rush the quarterback. They chose Wimbley in the first round of the 2006 NFL Draft. He was the 13th player picked overall. The team's coaches wanted someone who could put pressure on the opposing quarterback.
