Kanab Creek is a stream that flows into the famous Colorado River. It starts in Kane County, Utah, in an area where water flows towards the Colorado River. The creek travels about 125 miles (201 km) south until it joins the Colorado River.

Where Kanab Creek Flows
Kanab Creek begins high up in the mountains, near the bottom of the Sunset Cliffs. From there, it flows southwest, passing close to the town of Alton. It then turns south and goes under Utah State Route 136.
The creek continues south, running next to U.S. Route 89 and past the town of Kanab.
Journey Through Arizona
Kanab Creek then crosses into Arizona. Here, it forms the border between Coconino and Mohave counties. It flows past Fredonia.
The creek also travels through the Kaibab Indian Reservation, which is home to the Paiute people. It also goes through the Kanab Creek Wilderness, a protected natural area.
Finally, Kanab Creek reaches the Grand Canyon National Park. Here, it joins the mighty Colorado River.
Ancient History Along the Creek
Long ago, the valley around Kanab Creek was home to ancient Native American groups. These included the Basketmaker and Anasazi people. You can still find ruins of their old buildings and tools along the creek's path.
