Exploring Kandanga Creek's Landscape

The area gets its name from Kandanga Creek. This creek starts in a nearby place called Upper Kandanga. It then flows through Kandanga Creek from the south-west to the north-east.

As it leaves the area, the creek joins the Mary River. The creek creates a valley, which is a low area between hills. This valley is about 80 to 100 metres (260 to 330 feet) above sea level. On both sides of the valley, the land rises into mountains. These mountains can reach up to 300 metres (980 feet) high.

Most of the land in Kandanga Creek is used for grazing. This means farmers raise animals like cattle or sheep on the natural plants that grow there.

A Look Back: Kandanga Creek's History

The name "Kandanga Creek" comes from the local creek. The word koondangoor is from the Kabi language. It means "mountainous," which describes the area well.

The school stopped teaching students on December 31, 2009. It officially closed a year later, on December 31, 2010. The school was located on a 5-acre (2-hectare) site at 249 Sterling Road. It was sold in November 2014.
