Kaniehtiio Alexandra Jessie Horn (born November 8, 1986), also known as Tiio Horn, is a Canadian actress and filmmaker. She is known for her roles in TV shows like Hemlock Grove, 18 to Life, Letterkenny, and Reservation Dogs. She has also appeared in movies such as The Trotsky and The Wild Hunt.

About Kaniehtiio Horn

Kaniehtiio Horn was born in Ottawa, Canada. She grew up there and also on the Kahnawake Mohawk reserve near Montreal.

Her mother, Kahn-Tineta Horn, was a model and an activist for the Kahnawake First Nation. Her father is a lawyer with German and Scottish family roots. Kaniehtiio, her mother, and her older half-sister Waneek Horn-Miller were involved in an important event called the Oka Crisis in 1990. Waneek later became a famous water polo player and co-captain of the Canadian women's team at the 2000 Summer Olympics.

Kaniehtiio wanted to be an actress from a young age. But as a teenager, she focused on swimming and water polo. She later studied theatre arts at Dawson College and finished in 2005. After that, she appeared in several short films.

Kaniehtiio's Acting Career

Kaniehtiio Horn's first acting role was in 2006. She appeared in a TV mini-series called Indian Summer: The Oka Crisis. This was special because she had been present at the real-life event many years before.

Early Roles and Awards

In 2007, Kaniehtiio got a role in the drama film The Colony. The next year, she was in the TV film Moccasin Flats: Redemption. She was even nominated for a Gemini Award for her acting in that film. Also in 2008, she appeared in Journey to the Center of the Earth with actor Brendan Fraser.

Film and TV Success

In 2009, Kaniehtiio starred in The Trotsky. She played a high school student in Montreal. She also played a hacker named Spider in the TV movie Web of Lies. She appeared in The Wild Hunt and Leslie, My Name Is Evil. These three Canadian films were shown at the Festival du Nouveau Cinéma. The Trotsky and The Wild Hunt were even named among the Top 10 Canadian films at the 2009 Toronto International Film Festival.

Kaniehtiio also starred as Monica Bellow in the CBC TV show 18 to Life. This show was also shown in the US.

Voice Acting and New Projects

Kaniehtiio has also done voice acting. She voiced several characters in By the Rapids, an animated show for APTN. She helped create this cartoon with Joseph Tekaroniake Lazare. In 2010, she worked with director Jacob Tierney again in the film Good Neighbours. She also starred in A Flesh Offering, playing an artist lost in the woods.

In 2011, Kaniehtiio appeared in the film The Theatre Bizarre and played a priestess in Immortals. She filmed Penthouse North with Michelle Monaghan and Michael Keaton.

Netflix and Video Games

In 2012, Kaniehtiio joined the cast of the Netflix show Hemlock Grove. She played Destiny Rumancek, a Romani witch. She acted alongside stars like Famke Janssen and Bill Skarsgård.

That same year, she voiced Kaniehtí:io, a Mohawk mother, in the video game Assassin's Creed III. In 2013, Kaniehtiio played Rynn in the TV series Defiance. She also appeared as Dorothy Gale from The Wizard of Oz in an episode of the TV series Supernatural. She was also in the Amazon series The Man in the High Castle (TV Series).

Recent Work

Kaniehtiio has a recurring role as Tanis in the TV series Letterkenny. For this role, she won a Canadian Screen Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series in 2022. She also works as a Consulting Producer on the Letterkenny spin-off show Shoresy. Her job there is to make sure the Indigenous characters are shown accurately.

In 2020, she was a panelist on Canada Reads, supporting Eden Robinson's book Son of a Trickster. From 2021 to 2023, she played the recurring role of Deer Lady in the FX/Hulu show Reservation Dogs. In 2022, she appeared as Feather Day in season 2 of the Peacock series Rutherford Falls.

Her first film as a director, Seeds, was shown at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival.

Personal Life

Kaniehtiio Horn became a mother to a son in November 2020.
