About Karólína Eiríksdóttir
Karólína was born in Reykjavík, Iceland, a beautiful country known for its volcanoes and glaciers. When she was a child, she started learning to play the piano.
Later, she decided to study how to compose music. She went to the Reykjavik College of Music in Iceland. She also studied at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, United States. She earned two master's degrees there. One was in music history (1976), and the other was in composition (1978). After her studies, she became a teacher at the College of Music in Reykjavik.
Karólína's music has been played in many different countries. These include France, England, Vienna, Tokyo, the United States, Germany, Switzerland, Spain, and Argentina. She has also helped lead important music groups. For example, she was the chairman of the board for The Iceland Music Information Centre. She also led The Society of Icelandic Composers. Today, she is active on the boards of the Reykjavík Arts Festival and the Iceland Academy of the Arts.
