A Look at Kasuga's History

People believe that the Kasuga area was a very important place during the Yayoi period. This was a time in ancient Japan. It was also part of an old area called Chikuzen Province. The city's name comes from a Kasuga Shrine. This shrine was built a long time ago during the Nara period. The Fujiwara clan, a powerful family, ruled this area back then.

During the Edo Period, Kasuga was controlled by the Fukuoka Domain. Later, after the Meiji restoration in 1889, Kasuga became a village. This was when Japan created its modern system for towns and cities. Kasuga became a town on January 1, 1953. Then, on April 1, 1972, it officially became a city!
