Katherine Joan Bedingfield (born October 29, 1981) is an American political advisor. She worked as the White House Communications Director for President Joe Biden from 2021 to 2023. Before that, she helped manage Joe Biden's 2020 presidential campaign. She also worked as his communications director when he was Vice President under President Barack Obama.

Early Life and Education

Kate Bedingfield was born on October 29, 1981. She grew up in Sandy Springs, Georgia. Her parents are Dana H. and Sid E. Bedingfield. Her father was a journalism professor and worked for CNN. Her mother is a social media consultant.

Kate went to Sandy Springs Middle School. She then graduated from Riverwood High School. She earned her college degree from the University of Virginia.

Career in Politics

Kate Bedingfield started her career in politics. She was a spokesperson for the John Edwards 2008 presidential campaign. She also worked as the communications director for Jeanne Shaheen's 2008 Senate campaign.

In 2015, Bedingfield became the communications director for then Vice President Joe Biden. She also had two other jobs in the Obama administration. These roles included director of response and deputy director of media affairs.

Working on the Biden Campaign

Bedingfield served as a deputy campaign manager for the Joe Biden 2020 presidential campaign. Her hard work on the campaign was recognized. Fortune magazine named her one of the most influential people under 40. This honor was for her work in government and politics.

Role in the Biden Administration

In November 2020, Bedingfield was chosen for a big job. She became the White House Communications Director for the Biden administration. This role meant she was in charge of how the White House shared information.

In July 2022, she decided to stay in her position. She had previously announced she would leave. However, in February 2023, Bedingfield announced she would leave the administration. She left at the end of that month. Ben LaBolt took over her position.

Personal Life

Kate Bedingfield married David Kelley Kieve on January 12, 2013. Their wedding took place at St. John's Episcopal Church, Lafayette Square in Washington, D.C. Kate and David have two children together. David Kieve is currently the President of the Environmental Defense Action Fund.
