History of Kechi
How Kechi Got Its Name
The city of Kechi was named after the Kichai people. They were a Native American tribe.
Railroad History
In 1887, a railroad company called the Chicago, Kansas and Nebraska Railway built a train line through Kechi. This line connected towns like Herington and Caldwell.
Over the years, different companies owned this railroad. It became part of the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railway. Even today, many local people still call it the "Rock Island" line.
First Post Office
The first post office in Kechi opened in 1888. This helped people send and receive mail easily.
