About Kevin Myers
His Early Life
Kevin Myers was born in Leicester, England, and grew up there. His father, who was a doctor from Ireland, passed away when Kevin was 15 years old. At that time, Kevin was attending Ratcliffe College, a Catholic boarding school. Even though his family faced financial difficulties after his father's death, Kevin was able to continue his studies at the school. This was possible with help from the school and the local education authorities.
After finishing school, Kevin moved to Ireland to attend university. He graduated from University College Dublin (UCD) in 1969.
His Journalism Career
After university, Kevin Myers began his career as a journalist. He worked for RTÉ, which is a big broadcaster in Ireland. He reported from Northern Ireland during a time of conflict known as the Troubles. Later, he wrote for three of Ireland's main newspapers. These were The Irish Times, the Irish Independent, and the Irish edition of The Sunday Times.
In 2000, some of his popular "An Irishman's Diary" columns were put together into a book. A second book of his columns was published in 2007.
Other Projects and Books
In the 1990s, Kevin Myers hosted a television quiz show called Challenging Times on RTÉ. He also wrote a novel titled Banks of Green Willow, which was published in 2001.
In 2006, he released a non-fiction book called Watching the Door (ISBN: 1-84351-085-5). This book shared his experiences as a journalist in Northern Ireland during the 1970s. The book received good reviews from newspapers like The Times and The Guardian.
Kevin Myers was also a regular guest on radio shows. He often appeared on programmes like Lunchtime with Eamon Keane and The Right Hook on Newstalk 106. He also contributed to The Last Word on Today FM.
Personal Life
Kevin Myers is married to Rachel Nolan. They live in County Kildare, Ireland. His sister-in-law is Anna Nolan, a well-known TV presenter and producer.
