Kevin Thomas Shinick (born March 19, 1969) is an American writer, producer, director, and actor. He is also known for creating comic books. Shinick has won an Emmy award for his work on the animated show Robot Chicken. He was also nominated for an Emmy for his work on Mad, an animated series based on the famous humor magazine.
Shinick was also the main producer for the Disney XD series Spider-Man. Many people know him as the Squadron Leader in the PBS game show Where in Time Is Carmen Sandiego?.

Early Life and Education
Kevin Shinick was born in Merrick, a town on Long Island, New York. He went to Sanford H. Calhoun High School. After high school, he attended Hofstra University, where he studied theater and communication. While in college, he was a contestant on the TV game show Jackpot in 1989.
Career in Entertainment
Working in the Theater
A year after graduating from college, Shinick began acting on Broadway. He was in a play called The Seagull with famous actors like Ethan Hawke and Laura Linney. He also appeared in other Broadway shows, including Night Must Fall with Matthew Broderick and the Tony-nominated plays Timon of Athens and Saint Joan.
In 2002, Shinick wrote and directed Spider-Man Live!. This was a big stage show based on the Spider-Man character. It was performed in large venues like Radio City Music Hall and toured 40 cities across the United States. It was the first live-action stage show all about Spider-Man.
Television and Movie Projects
In 1996, Shinick became a host on the PBS show Where in Time Is Carmen Sandiego?. His role as the Squadron Leader was so popular that he appeared on trading cards and as an action figure.
Starting in 2007, Shinick became a writer, director, and producer for the animated series Robot Chicken. In 2010, he co-created another animated show called Mad, which was on for four seasons. From 2017 to 2018, he was a producer and writer for the Disney XD show Spider-Man.
As an actor, Shinick has appeared in many TV shows. These include Grimm, Major Crimes, and Rizzoli & Isles. He was also the voice of Bruce Banner in the animated shows Avengers Assemble, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Spider-Man. In 2025, he played Dick Clark in the movie Michael, a film about Michael Jackson.
Writing for Comics and Books
Shinick is also a talented writer for comic books. Since 2009, he has written for both Marvel Comics and DC Comics. For DC, he wrote stories about Batman and the villain Clayface. For Marvel, he wrote for comics like "Avenging Spider-Man" and "Superior Spider-Man Team-Up".
In 2019, he wrote a young-adult novel called Force Collector. The book is part of the Journey to Star Wars series, which connects to the Star Wars movies.
