Khadija Arib (born 10 October 1960) is a Dutch politician who was born in Morocco. She is a member of the Labour Party. Khadija Arib was the Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Netherlands from December 2015 to April 2021. The Speaker is like the leader of the meetings in the Dutch parliament. She first became a member of the House of Representatives in 1998 and served until 2022.

Early Life and Education
Khadija Arib was born in Hedami, a place near Casablanca, Morocco, on 10 October 1960. When she was 15 years old, she moved to the Netherlands. Her parents worked in a laundry service in Schiedam. Khadija Arib studied sociology at the University of Amsterdam. Before she became a politician, she worked as a civil servant, a teacher, and a social worker.
A Career in Politics
Khadija Arib joined the Labour Party (PvdA). She was a member of the Dutch Parliament for many years. She served from May 1998 to November 2006, and then again from March 2007 until November 2022. In Parliament, she focused on important issues. These included fighting racism and discrimination. She also worked on preventing domestic violence and improving youth care.
Becoming Speaker of Parliament
In 2012, Khadija Arib tried to become the Speaker of the House of Representatives. She didn't win that time, but she became the first deputy speaker. This means she was the second-in-command. In January 2016, she was elected as the Speaker. She had been acting as Speaker since December 2015. In March 2017, she was re-elected as Speaker because she was the only candidate.
After the Speakership
After the 2021 Dutch general election, Khadija Arib was no longer the Speaker. She continued to be a member of Parliament for the Labour Party. She was chosen to lead a committee. This committee was set up to look into how the country handled the corona pandemic.
In September 2022, an investigation was started into how she led her team. Khadija Arib left Parliament in November 2022. Julian Bushoff took her place. In October 2023, the investigation concluded that she had created a challenging work environment. Khadija Arib then started a lawsuit to challenge the investigation. In February 2025, a court ruled that the investigation was allowed and had followed the rules.
In March 2024, Khadija Arib became the head of the Schiphol Social Council (MRS). This group advises Amsterdam Airport Schiphol on its plans. It helps make sure the airport's plans consider the people living nearby.
Championing Women's Rights
Throughout her career, Khadija Arib has been a strong supporter of women's rights. She especially worked to help women with a migrant background in the Netherlands. She helped start and lead the Moroccan Women in the Netherlands Foundation. In 1989, she faced difficulties in Morocco because she spoke out about women's rights. The Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs helped her return to the Netherlands.
