For the talent part of the competition, Kira sang "Happy" by Pharrell Williams. She used a red plastic cup to make percussion sounds. This was similar to a performance by Anna Kendrick in the movie Pitch Perfect.
During the on-stage question, she was asked about important issues for women in the senate. Kira said that supporting military members needed attention. She was happy that female politicians were already working on this. She was proud to be a voter for one of these women, Senator Kirsten Gillibrand.
Kira was crowned by the outgoing Miss America 2014, Nina Davuluri. She won over the first runner-up, Miss Virginia 2014, Courtney Garrett. Kira was the third Miss New York in a row to win the Miss America title. This made New York the first state to have three Miss America winners in a row.
