Kirby: Canvas Curse, also known as Kirby: Power Paintbrush in Europe, is an exciting platform game released in 2005 for the Nintendo DS. It was created by HAL Laboratory and published by Nintendo. This game offers a fresh way to play a Kirby adventure. Instead of using buttons, you control Kirby entirely with the stylus and the touch screen! A follow-up game, Kirby and the Rainbow Curse, came out for the Wii U in 2015. The original Kirby: Canvas Curse was also made available again for the Wii U's Virtual Console in various regions between 2015 and 2016.

Discovering Kirby's Unique Adventure
How to Play with the Stylus
In Kirby: Canvas Curse, you guide Kirby, who is shaped like a ball, using only your touch screen and stylus. You can draw colorful rainbow lines on the screen. These lines become ramps or bridges for Kirby to roll across. They can also act as walls to protect him from dangers and enemies. Be careful, though! Drawing lines uses up your special rainbow ink. Luckily, this ink refills itself over time, so you can keep drawing.
You can also use your stylus to interact with enemies. Tapping on an enemy will stun it, making it stop moving. Then, you can roll Kirby into them or dash him forward to defeat them. Some enemies, when defeated, give Kirby special powers. These powers might let him shoot beams or even turn into a rocket! You can activate these cool abilities anytime by tapping directly on Kirby with your stylus.
Exploring Worlds and Challenges
The game takes you through eight different worlds. Most worlds have three levels. Your main goal in each level is to reach a special rainbow-colored doorway. These worlds have many different themes, from fiery volcanos to icy tundras. It's a journey full of variety!
If you enjoy extra challenges, you can try the Rainbow Run mode. In this mode, you replay parts of levels. The goal is to finish as fast as you can or use as few rainbow lines as possible. It's a great way to test your skills! At the end of most worlds, Kirby faces a fun mini-game style boss battle.
Earning Rewards and Unlocks
As you play Kirby: Canvas Curse, you can collect special medals. You find these medals in the main levels, by defeating bosses, and by completing challenges in Rainbow Run mode. These medals are very useful! You can use them to unlock secret features in the game. This includes new characters to play as, a sound test to listen to the game's music, and even different colors for your paint lines.
The Story of the Paint Curse
One peaceful day, a strange portal opened in the sky above Dream Land. Out of it came a mischievous witch named Drawcia. She cast a powerful spell, turning all of Dream Land into a world made of paint! Drawcia then fled back through her portal. Kirby, always brave, chased after her. He found himself in Drawcia's colorful, paint-themed world.
But the witch wasn't done! She cast another spell on Kirby, turning him into a helpless, limbless ball. After Drawcia disappeared, a magical item called the Magical Paintbrush (or Power Paintbrush in Europe) turned to you, the player, for help. It was up to you to guide Kirby!
Kirby began his adventure to find and defeat Drawcia. His goal was to break her spell and bring Dream Land back to normal. Along the way, Drawcia created copies of Kirby's old enemies to stop him. These included characters like Paint Roller, Kracko, Kracko Jr., and even King Dedede. Kirby bravely faced each challenge. Finally, he confronted Drawcia herself. After a tough battle, Drawcia transformed into an even more powerful form called Drawcia Soul. Kirby, with your help, defeated her for good. Peace and color were restored to Dream Land!
