A Look Back at Klang's History
Klang has a long and interesting history. Here are some key moments:
- From 1867 to 1874, the city experienced the Klang War. This was a conflict that shaped the region.
- Later, from 1880 to 1889, Klang actually served as the main capital city of Selangor.
- In 1945, the Klang Town Authority was created to help manage the town.
- Then, in 1954, the Klang Town Council was formed. It was responsible for an area of about 27.5 square kilometers.
- By 1971, the Klang District Council was set up. This new council included areas around Kapar and Meru towns.
- For a few years, from 1974 to 1977, Klang was once again the capital of Selangor. This happened after Kuala Lumpur became a special Federal Territory. Klang was the capital until Shah Alam took over.
- Finally, in 1977, the Klang Municipal Council was formed. It now manages a larger area of about 60.9 square kilometers.
