Kong: The Animated Series is an exciting TV show for kids from the United States and Canada. It stars the famous giant ape, King Kong. The show is based on the classic 1933 King Kong movie.

This animated series first aired on Fox Kids in the summer of 2001. Later, Jetix showed the rest of the episodes starting in 2005. This was just before Peter Jackson's new King Kong movie came out. The series also led to two movies: Kong: King of Atlantis (2005) and Kong: Return to the Jungle (2007).

What is the Story About?

The story of Kong: The Animated Series begins after the original King Kong fell from the Empire State Building. A smart scientist, Dr. Lorna Jenkins, took DNA samples from him. She used this DNA, along with DNA from her grandson, Jason, to create a new Kong. This new Kong is a clone, like a younger brother to Jason.

Years later, Jason and his friend Tann are invited to Kong Island. But their university professor, Ramone De La Porta, tricks his way into coming along. On the island, they meet Lua, a native girl. They soon discover Dr. Jenkins' secret lab. Ramone shows his true evil plans. He uses special "Cyber-Link" technology to steal powerful "Primal Stones." These stones keep a fiery demon named Chiros locked away.

Jason has his own Cyber-Link. It lets him merge with Kong, making them even stronger! Jason and his friends must now get the Primal Stones back from De La Porta. They also have to fight Chiros's evil forces to save the world.

Who are the Main Characters?

Meet the Heroes

  • Kong (voiced by Scott McNeil) - Kong is one of the main heroes. He is a special clone of the first King Kong. Dr. Lorna Jenkins created him using DNA from the original Kong and her grandson, Jason. Because of this, Kong and Jason have a strong bond, like brothers. Jason even calls Kong "Bro." Kong is known as "The Protector." He uses his amazing strength and the Primal Stones to keep the world safe from the demon Chiros. When Jason merges with Kong using the Cyber-Link, Kong can even grow bigger if he gets angry!
  • Jason Jenkins (voiced by Kirby Morrow as an adult, Alex Doduk as a young boy) - Jason is another main hero. He is Dr. Lorna Jenkins' grandson and like an older brother to Kong. He studies archeology at college and is best friends with Tann. Jason is also a skilled martial artist. After De La Porta steals the Primal Stones, Jason and his friends travel the world. They try to get the stones back and stop De La Porta's evil plans. Jason also has special feelings for Lua.
  • Eric "Tann" Tannenbaum IV (voiced by Scott McNeil) - Tann is Jason's best friend and a fellow college student. He is very strong but also very kind. Tann trains in martial arts with Jason. His family is very rich, and he loves buying new gadgets. These gadgets often help the team in their adventures! Tann is also a great pilot and loves pizza with pineapple. He often says his toes itch when something bad is about to happen.
  • Dr. Lorna Jenkins (voiced by Daphne Goldrick and Kathy Morse) - Dr. Jenkins is a brilliant scientist. She is Jason's grandmother and the one who created Kong. • Lua (voiced by Saffron Henderson) - Lua is a native girl from Kong Island. She is the island's shaman and the last of her people. Lua knows many secrets about Kong Island. She helps Dr. Jenkins with her research. Lua takes her role very seriously, even risking her life to protect the island's secrets. She has a pet Smilodon (saber-toothed cat) named Chondar. Lua is a bit new to the outside world. She also has special feelings for Jason.

Who are the Villains?

  • Professor Ramon De La Porta (voiced by David Kaye) - De La Porta is one of the main bad guys. He was once a professor at Jason and Tann's university. He wants to use the Primal Stones to take over the world.
    • Omar (voiced by Scott McNeil) - Omar is De La Porta's tall second-in-command. He often uses the Cyber-Link to merge with animals, like a lion and an eagle to become a Griffin.
    • Frazetti (voiced by Kirby Morrow) - Frazetti is a muscular henchman who works for De La Porta. He also uses the Cyber-Link to merge with animals, like a hyena or a Stegosaurus.
    • Giggles - Giggles is a large henchman who often giggles. He merges with creatures like a Komodo dragon or a crocodile.

  • Chiros (voiced by Paul Dobson) - Chiros is a powerful ancient demon. He was once a shaman who tried to steal the Primal Stones. The original Kong and his shaman friend sealed Chiros away. When De La Porta steals the stones, Chiros slowly starts to break free. He sends his servants, like Harpy and Ominous, to fight Kong.
    • Harpy (voiced by Pauline Newstone) - Harpy is Chiros's loyal servant. She is a female gargoyle demon who looks more human than other gargoyles. She is very devoted to Chiros.
