Konzum is Croatia's largest supermarket chain. It has over 700 stores across the country. More than 10,000 people work for Konzum. Every day, over 650,000 customers shop there.
Konzum's main office is in Zagreb. Since April 1, 2019, it has been part of the Fortenova Group. You can also find Konzum stores in nearby countries. These include Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, and Montenegro.
In 2005, Konzum started a chain of drugstores called Kozmo. By 2009, Kozmo had 42 stores and 242 employees. It was then sold to a fund. In 2017, a German company named Müller took over all 70 Kozmo stores. This helped Müller grow its business in Croatia.

Konzum's Story
The very first Konzum store opened in Zagreb in 1957. It was the first self-service store in Zagreb. In 1970, four different retail chains joined together. They formed a bigger company called Unikonzum.
Konzum's business grew steadily over the years. It expanded a lot after Croatia became independent in the early 1990s. Since then, it has become Croatia's biggest supermarket chain. In 1994, Konzum joined the Agrokor group.
In 1995, the name Unikonzum changed back to Konzum. The company also updated its operations. It introduced a new computer system for sales.
In 2002, Konzum bought Alastor. Alastor was the third-largest food retailer in Croatia. In the same year, Konzum started a loyalty card program. It also launched Croatia's first online retail shop.
Konzum continued to grow in 2003. It opened 70 new stores. The number of employees increased from 5,000 to 7,000. By 2005, Konzum stores were in all parts of Croatia. In 2006, the company opened its biggest store yet. It was called Super Konzum Tower Centar in Rijeka.
Nine more Super Konzum stores opened in 2009. This was after 67 new Konzum stores opened in 2007. Starting in 2011, Konzum built a huge new warehouse. This logistics and distribution center is in Dugopolje. It covers an area of 85,000 square meters. Konzum says it is the largest in the region.
In 2012, Konzum Benz, a chain of gas stations, opened. Konzum also launched its own mobile app that year. In 2019, Konzum's business moved to a new company. This new company, Konzum plus d.o.o., is owned by Fortenova Group. This change separated Konzum from the Agrokor group. In 2021, Konzum became the first retail chain in Croatia to accept cryptocurrency payments. You could pay with crypto on their website and in physical stores.
K Plus Products
K Plus is Konzum's own brand of products. It offers food and household items. These products are sold at affordable prices.
Konzum Store Types


Konzum stores have different names based on their size. They are called Konzum, Konzum Maxi, or Super Konzum.
Konzum Maxi Stores
Konzum Maxi stores are medium-sized supermarkets. You can find them in many Croatian cities. These include Dubrovnik, Sisak, Split, Zadar, Rijeka, and Zagreb. Other locations are Osijek, Vinkovci, and Pula.
Super Konzum Stores
Super Konzum stores are the largest type of Konzum supermarket. They are located in cities like Imotski, Čakovec, Zagreb, Rijeka, Zadar, and Split. You can also find them in Dubrovnik, Makarska, and Poreč.
Velpro Wholesale
Velpro is a wholesale business. It is part of the Konzum group. Velpro stores are like "cash and carry" places. The first Velpro opened in 2003 in Bosnia and Herzegovina. There are about 14 Velpro stores in Croatia. You can also find one in Belgrade, Serbia.
Idea Supermarkets
Konzum also runs stores in Serbia and Montenegro. These stores are known by the "Idea" brand. Idea stores are named Idea, Idea Super, or Idea Extra. Their names depend on their size.
The city of Niš has the most Idea stores, with 37. Belgrade has 24, and Podgorica has 19. Other cities with Idea supermarkets include Novi Sad, Kruševac, Subotica, and Užice.
LDC Warehouses
LDC stands for Logistic-Distribution Center. It is Konzum's partner for storage. Their large warehouses are located in Zagreb, Split, and Osijek.
