Korey Coleman, born on September 9, 1971, is an American film critic, animator, and podcaster. He is also a filmmaker, voice actor, and comedian. Korey is famous for his old film review website, Spill.com. Now, he runs a similar and very popular site called Double Toasted.

Korey Coleman's Early Life and Education

Korey Coleman was born to Willie and Irma Coleman. He was the youngest of three children. Growing up, Korey loved animation. He went to the University of Texas. He hoped to study filmmaking there. However, he later decided to leave college.

While at the university, he met Martin Thomas. Martin was an artist and later became Korey's co-host. Martin was interested in Korey's comic strip, Eddie the Albino Squirrel. One of Korey's classmates was C. H. Greenblatt. C.H. Greenblatt later created the TV show Chowder. Both Korey and C.H. Greenblatt worked on the school's newspaper. Korey also went to school with Russell Neal from the R&B music group Hi-Five.

Working on Space Jam

Korey Coleman also worked as an assistant animator for the movie Space Jam. This happened during the film's production. Warner Bros. needed help to finish the movie. So, they hired a team of animators, and Korey was part of this team.

Korey shared a story about his work on the film. He said that at first, he was not allowed to work on the main project. But one day, the animation team was very behind. They asked him to draw just one shadow for Tweety Bird. Tweety Bird was connected to an iron lung in that scene. Korey thought they believed it was simple enough for him to do. It took him about ten minutes to finish. Even for this small task, he received a credit in the movie's closing credits. He was listed alongside people who had worked for weeks. Korey confirmed he was an "assistant animator." He explained he mostly did extra work rather than assisting others. He also joked that he never worked on Quest for Camelot, despite what some websites claimed.

From Cable TV to Online Success

Korey Coleman started a TV show on cable access called The Reel Deal. This show brought him back together with Martin Thomas. It also featured other reviewers like Chris Cox, C. Robert Cargill, and Tony Guerrero. During this time, Korey directed and starred in a movie called 2 A.M.. He did this to improve his filmmaking skills.

Korey eventually got tired of doing a cable access show. He wanted to reach a bigger audience. He took the audio from their reviews and added animations to them. This made the reviews funny. Chris Cox put these videos online. They were then seen by Hollywood.com. After meeting with the people in charge of the site, Korey created Spill.com.

The website Spill.com was active from 2007 to 2013. Their last review was for the movie Saving Mr. Banks. After Spill.com closed, Chris Cox started his own website, OneofUs.net. C. Robert Cargill continued his career as a screenwriter. Tony Guerrero stopped podcasting to become an actor. He appeared in Alita: Battle Angel as a henchman. Tony does return for some special shows sometimes. The character Co-Host 3000 is owned by Hollywood.com.

Korey decided to start a Kickstarter project. He wanted to raise money to launch a new website. The first goal was to raise $30,000. But by the end, they collected $133,860! With this money, Korey created his new website, DoubleToasted.

Korey Coleman's Personal Life

Korey Coleman grew up in a household with religious beliefs. He shared that he waited until he was 18 years old to tell his mother he would not go to church anymore. His mother responded quietly, but seemed disappointed. His father was very strict. He often made Korey work at the family's auto repair shop. Sometimes, he had to do tasks he didn't know how to do. Korey once said his father told him to change a tire for a customer. He returned to tell his dad he didn't know how to change a tire.

Before becoming a film critic, Korey was a member of the National Guard of the United States. He once mentioned that his unit was almost sent to Iraq. But the US military pulled out right before it happened. His father fought in World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. His father was wounded in one of these conflicts.

In August 2016, Korey proposed to his girlfriend, Merve Mia. They got married on July 7, 2017. They later divorced in 2023, and it was finalized in mid-2024. Merve Mia has since moved back to her home country of Turkey.
