Krunal Himanshu Pandya (born 24 March 1991) is an Indian cricket player. He has played for the Indian national team. Krunal is known as an all-rounder. This means he is good at both batting and bowling. He bats left-handed and bowls slow left-arm orthodox.
He made his first international appearance for India in November 2018. In 2021, he scored a very fast half-century in his first One Day International (ODI) match. Krunal is the older brother of another famous cricketer, Hardik Pandya. He used to captain the Lucknow Super Giants in the Indian Premier League. Later, Royal Challengers Bangalore chose him to play for their team in 2025. He also plays for the Baroda team in India.
Playing for Teams in India
Krunal Pandya started his professional cricket journey in India. He played his first major match on October 6, 2016. This was for the Baroda team in the 2016–17 Ranji Trophy tournament.
Soon after, he became a top player for Baroda. He scored the most runs and took the most wickets for his team. This happened during the 2016-17 Vijay Hazare Trophy. He scored 366 runs and took 11 wickets in 8 matches. His best bowling in these matches was 4 wickets for only 20 runs.
In 2017, Krunal also played for the India A team. They won a special tournament against teams from South Africa and Afghanistan. He was again the top run-scorer for Baroda in the 2018–19 Vijay Hazare Trophy. In 2019, he was chosen to be the captain of the Baroda team for the Vijay Hazare Trophy.
In 2022, Krunal also got to play for an English team. He joined the Warwickshire County Cricket Club for a tournament called the 2022 Royal London One-Day Cup.
Indian Premier League Journey
The IPL is a very popular cricket tournament. In 2016, the Mumbai Indians team bought Krunal Pandya. He started playing for them in April 2016. His first IPL match was in Mumbai.
Krunal played very well in the 2016 IPL season. Because of his great performances, he was named in the best IPL teams by cricket experts.
In 2017, he had an amazing game against the Delhi Daredevils. He scored 86 runs very quickly and took two important wickets. For this, he was named the Player of the Match. He kept playing well throughout the tournament. In the final match, he scored 47 runs and helped his team win. He was again named the Player of the Match for the final.
In 2018, the Mumbai Indians bought Krunal again in the IPL auction. In 2022, a new team, the Lucknow Super Giants, bought him for a large amount of money.
Playing for India
Krunal Pandya started playing for the Indian national team in 2018. In October 2018, he was chosen for India's Twenty20 International (T20I) teams. He played against teams from the West Indies and Australia.
He made his T20I debut on November 4, 2018, against the West Indies. In that match, he took one wicket and scored 21 runs without getting out. He also played all three T20I matches against Australia. In one match, he took 4 wickets for 36 runs and won the Player of the Match award.
In March 2021, Krunal was picked for India's One Day International (ODI) team. He played his first ODI match on March 23, 2021, against England. He scored 58 runs without getting out. This was a record! It was the fastest half-century ever scored by a player in their first ODI match. He reached 50 runs in just 26 balls.
About His Life
Krunal Pandya is the older brother of fellow Indian cricketer Hardik Pandya. He got married to Pankhuri Sharma on December 27, 2017. They have two sons. Their first son, Kavir Krunal Pandya, was born on July 18, 2022. Their second son, Vayu Krunal Pandya, was born on April 21, 2024.
