How Kundl Got Its Name
Kundl was first mentioned in a very old document from 788. This document was a directory by Bishop Arno of Salzburg. In it, Kundl was called ad Quantalas, which means "at the white river." This old name is likely where the town's current name comes from.
Castles and Mining
In 1213, a noble family called the Kummersbruckers lived in a fortress in Kundl. Today, only the ruins of this old fortress remain. Later, in the 1400s and 1500s, mining became very important in Kundl. You can still see signs of this history in some street names, like Hüttstraße and Schieferrollstraße.
From Beer to Medicine

Modern Industries
In the 1950s, many companies decided to set up their businesses in Kundl. This made the village a "commuter community," meaning many people live there and travel to work. Some of the most famous companies in Kundl are the pharmaceutical company Sandoz (which used to be Biochemie), the tractor factory Lindner, and the timber factory Pfeifer.
