History of LaCrosse
LaCrosse started to grow in 1888. This was when the Oregon Railroad and Navigation Company finished building a railroad line. A man named George Dawson and his wife built the first small house from railroad ties. By 1889, only 12 people lived in LaCrosse. The first proper store was built in 1899 by Tom Shobe.
LaCrosse officially became a town on February 19, 1917.

The United States Census Bureau says the town covers about 0.78 square miles (2.02 square kilometers) of land. There is no water area within the town limits.

Who Lives in LaCrosse?
According to the 2010 census, 313 people lived in LaCrosse. They lived in 153 households. Most people (about 95.8%) were White. A small number were African American, Native American, or Asian. About 2.6% of people were from two or more racial backgrounds.
In terms of households, about 19.6% had children under 18. More than half (52.9%) were married couples. About 37.3% were non-family households, meaning people living alone or with roommates.
The average age in LaCrosse was about 51.8 years old. About 15.7% of residents were under 18. Many residents (30%) were 65 years old or older. The town had a nearly equal number of males (50.2%) and females (49.8%).
Community Activities and Events
The La Crosse Arts and Beautification Council was started in 2005. Their goal is to make downtown LaCrosse look nicer. They also want to promote art, local culture, and the town's history. They have organized events like the Valentine Fine Arts Night and the Spring Faire.
The La Crosse Gun Club hosts an event called "Bacon & Crab Shooting" every year in late January.
The La Crosse Farmers Festival used to be held in mid-June. It featured a parade and live entertainment. However, this festival has not happened for several years.
