La Côte-aux-Fées is a small town, also called a municipality, in the canton of Neuchâtel in Switzerland. It's a quiet place with a rich history and beautiful natural surroundings.

History of La Côte-aux-Fées
The first time La Côte-aux-Fées was ever written about was in the year 1337. Back then, it was known by a slightly different name: La Costa des Faies.
Geography and Nature
La Côte-aux-Fées covers an area of about 12.9 square kilometers (about 5 square miles). A big part of this land, more than half, is used for farming. This means there are lots of fields and pastures.
Almost half of the area is covered by forests. These forests are important for the environment and for local wildlife. A small part of the land has buildings and roads. There are also tiny areas with rivers or lakes.
The town is made up of about a dozen small villages, called hamlets. The most well-known of these is Les Bolles-du-Temple.
Understanding the Coat of Arms
The official symbol of La Côte-aux-Fées is its coat of arms. It shows a white lamb walking on a green base, all on a blue background.
This design is a special kind of symbol called "canting arms." This means the picture on the coat of arms gives a hint about the town's name. The old name for the town, Coste eis Faes, meant "hill of the lambs." So, the lamb on the coat of arms represents this historical meaning.
Population and People
La Côte-aux-Fées has a population of around 469 people. A small number of these residents are foreign nationals. Over the past ten years, the number of people living here has gone down a bit.
Most people in La Côte-aux-Fées speak French as their main language. A smaller number speak German, and even fewer speak Portuguese.
In 2008, the population was almost evenly split between men and women. About 30% of the people living in La Côte-aux-Fées were born there. Many others were born in the same canton or elsewhere in Switzerland.
Young people, aged 0 to 19, make up about 18% of the population. Adults, aged 20 to 64, are the largest group, making up about 57%. Seniors, over 64 years old, make up about 25%.
Most households in the town have about two people living in them. There are also some households with just one person.
