Lafayette Hill is a community in Pennsylvania, USA. It is not an official city or town. Most of it is in Whitemarsh Township. A small part is in Springfield Township.
Lafayette Hill is located west of Philadelphia. It is also south of Plymouth Meeting. The community was once called "Barren Hill." It got its current name from a French general. This general was Marquis de Lafayette. He camped there with his soldiers during the American Revolution.

A Look Back in Time
In the spring of 1778, George Washington sent about 2,200 soldiers. They were led by Marquis de Lafayette. Their job was to watch the British army. The British had spent the winter in Philadelphia. Lafayette's troops had a short fight nearby. This event is known as the Battle of Barren Hill.
The community's post office name changed in March 1883. It went from Barren Hill to Lafayette Hill. This change honored the French general.

Lafayette Hill has many parks and nature areas. It is home to different groups of people. There is a Jewish community and a Catholic population. They have places like St. Philip Neri Church and Congregation Or Ami. The Whitemarsh Valley Country Club is also here.

Lafayette Hill has its own fire company. It is called the Barren Hill Volunteer Fire Company. It is one of the oldest in the area. It started in 1915 after a big farm fire.
