Lago Vista, Texas is a city in the United States. Its name means "Lake View" in English. It is located on the northern shores of Lake Travis.

This city is in Travis County, Texas. It is less than 20 miles from downtown Austin. Much of Lago Vista sits on a peninsula. A peninsula is land surrounded by water on three sides. The Colorado River flows right next to the city.

Between 2010 and 2020, Travis County grew by about 27%. Lago Vista grew even faster, by over 47%. This shows many people are moving to the area.

Geography and Climate

Lago Vista is on the North Shore of Lake Travis. It is about 20 miles northwest of downtown Austin.

The city covers about 15.52 square miles. Most of this area is land, but some is water. Lago Vista is next to the Balcones Canyonlands National Wildlife Refuge. This area has rugged land. Elevations range from 774 feet near the lake to 1220 feet near Rusty Allen Airport. The land has steep limestone hills and canyons. These are some of the highest points in Travis County.

Most of Lago Vista is part of the Lago Vista Independent School District. A small part of the city is in the Marble Falls Independent School District. Lago Vista ISD operates Lago Vista High School.

The Austin Community College district serves most of Travis County. This includes parts of Lago Vista.

The largest universities near Lago Vista are in Austin. These include the University of Texas at Austin. It is a very large university with over 40,000 undergraduate students.

The Capital Metropolitan Transportation Authority (CapMetro) provides public transport. It is based in Austin. CapMetro runs local bus services between Lago Vista and other parts of Austin. Route 214 connects Lago Vista to Lakeline Station.

CapMetro also has an on-demand service called Pickup. It works like a rideshare service in Lago Vista.

Airports

Rusty Allen Airport (RYW) is a small airport in Lago Vista. It is only for general aviation, like private planes. For regular flights, the closest airport is Austin–Bergstrom International Airport.
