Lake Arrowhead is a large, man-made lake in Cherokee County, Georgia, United States. It's about 3 kilometers (2 miles) southwest of Waleska. This beautiful lake is the second largest private lake in Georgia.

Lake Arrowhead covers about 2.2 square kilometers (540 acres) of water. It can be quite deep, reaching depths of up to 24 meters (80 feet). It's a popular spot for people who live nearby and those visiting the area.

The Lake Arrowhead Community

The name "Lake Arrowhead" doesn't just mean the lake itself. It also refers to the private, gated community that surrounds it. A gated community is a neighborhood with controlled entrances, often with security.

This community was started in the early 1970s. It was meant to be a quiet mountain getaway. Today, it's grown a lot and is on the edge of the larger metro Atlanta area.

History of the Area

Before the community was built, the valley where Lake Arrowhead now sits was known as "Lost Town." This area was first settled by pioneers in the 1840s. Many people who live in the Waleska area today are descendants of these early settlers. There's even a small, historic cemetery in the community with graves from the Puckett family, who were among the first settlers of Lost Town.

What's in the Community?

The Lake Arrowhead community has many features for its residents. It includes two lakes: Lake Arrowhead and a smaller one called Lake Chickasaw.

Some of the things you can find there are:

  • Two security gates for entry
  • An 18-hole golf course
  • A clubhouse
  • Places to rent boats
  • A marina (a dock for boats)
  • Nature trails for hiking

  • Tennis courts
  • A volunteer fire department and a full-time fire department

The community also has different types of homes, including condominiums. Some of these condos are right on the golf course!
