Lake Quatre Lieues, also known as French: Lac Quatre Lieues in French, is a beautiful lake in the province of Quebec, Canada. Its name means "Four-League Lake." This lake is in a wild, natural area. It's a great spot for relaxing, fishing, or even hunting.

What's in a Name?
The name Quatre Lieues means "Four Leagues" in French. A league was an old way to measure distance. This lake got its name because it is about four leagues, or 8 kilometres (5.0 mi), west of a place called Shelter Bay, Quebec.
Where is Lake Quatre Lieues?
Lake Quatre Lieues is located in a wilderness area of Quebec. It is part of the Côte-Nord region. Specifically, it's in the unorganized territory of Lac-Walker. This area is in the Sept-Rivières Regional County Municipality.
Lake Features
The lake sits about 116 metres (381 ft) above sea level. The northern part of the lake is 4.8 kilometres (3.0 mi) long and 390 metres (1,280 ft) wide. The MacDonald River flows through the northern end of Lake Quatre Lieues. It then continues east to join the Aux Rochers River. This river is south of the larger Lake Walker.
The lake itself is in a long, narrow basin. This basin is about 5.2 kilometres (3.2 mi) long and 2 kilometres (1.2 mi) wide. It has many bays and sandbanks. This area is an extension of the Lake Walker basin. The land around the lake has sandy terraces. These sandy areas were formed a very long time ago. This happened during the melting of glaciers in the Holocene period.
The Cartier Railway
The Cartier Railway runs along the northeast shore of the lake. This railway is owned by a company called ArcelorMittal. It links the Mont Wright iron mine near Fermont to Port-Cartier.
Environment Around the Lake
Images from NASA show that the area around Lake Quatre Lieues is mostly covered in thick evergreen forests. This region has a boreal climate. This means it has long, cold winters and short, cool summers.

The average yearly temperature in this region is about 0 °C (32 °F). July is usually the warmest month. The average temperature then is around 16 °C (61 °F). January is the coldest month, with an average temperature of about −17 °C (1 °F). The area gets about 1,014 millimetres (39.9 in) of rain each year. About 361.5 millimetres (14.23 in) of this falls as snow.

Activities and Regulations
The Port-Cartier–Sept-Îles Wildlife Reserve is nearby. This reserve offers cabins for rent. These cabins are great for people who want to hunt or fish in the Quatre-lieues area. The hunting area is quite large, about 150 square kilometres (58 sq mi). It has forests with trees that are about 50 years old.
In 2013, fishing for atlantic salmon was not allowed in the lake. However, fishing with a rod and line for other types of fish was permitted. This was allowed from May 11, 2012, to September 3, 2012.
