Lakeside is a place in Miller County, Missouri, in the United States. It's located right by the Osage River and close to the famous Bagnell Dam. In the year 2000, 37 people lived there. However, by the 2020 census, no one lived in Lakeside, and there was only one house. This means it is now an inactive city.
History of Lakeside
Lakeside grew when the Bagnell Dam and its power plant were being built. Many workers who helped construct the dam lived in Lakeside. Even after the dam was finished, a few people were needed to manage the complex. The Union Electric Administration Building-Lakeside was built as part of this big dam project. This building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1998, which means it's an important historical site. More land was added to its historical listing in 2011.
Geography of Lakeside
Lakeside is located in the western part of Miller County, right next to the Bagnell Dam. The city of Lake Ozark surrounds Lakeside to the north, west, and south.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Lakeside covers a total area of about 0.64 square miles (1.66 square kilometers). A little more than half of this area, about 0.35 square miles (0.89 square kilometers), is land. The rest, about 0.30 square miles (0.77 square kilometers), is water. This water includes parts of the Lake of the Ozarks just above the dam and the Osage River below it.
