Where is Lamar Located?
Lamar is found along Pennsylvania Route 64. This road connects it to other towns. To the northeast, it's just about 1 mile (1.6 km) to Exit 173 on Interstate 80, a major highway. From there, it's about 11 miles (18 km) to Lock Haven. Lock Haven is the main town and county seat of Clinton County.
To the southwest, Pennsylvania Route 64 goes through Nittany. Nittany is in Centre County. From Lamar, it's about 23 miles (37 km) to State College.
How Did Lamar Get Its Name?
The community of Lamar is named after a brave soldier from the American Revolutionary War. His name was Major Marien Lamar. He was born in Maryland. Sadly, Major Lamar was killed during the Battle of Paoli. This battle took place during the Revolutionary War.
