The area where Lambert is located was once part of the Cherokee Outlet. This was a large piece of land that was opened for settlement in the late 1800s. After 1893, Lambert was part of Woods County. When Oklahoma officially became a state in 1907, the area became part of the newly formed Alfalfa County.

Railroad and Post Office

In 1901, the Choctaw Northern Railroad came through Lambert. This was a big deal because it was the first railroad in the county! This railroad, which later became part of the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific system, connected Lambert to other towns like Aline, Augusta, Ingersoll, Driftwood, and Amorita. It even went into Kansas.

By 1909, Lambert had grown to 127 people. The town had four churches, a hotel, a bank, a grain elevator, and two businesses that bought grain from farmers. There were also about six other stores that served the people living in and around Lambert.

The town's population was highest in 1920, when 130 people lived there. Since then, the number of people living in Lambert has slowly gone down over many decades. By 2020, only 5 people were reported to be living in the town.
