Where is Landers Shoot?
Landers Shoot is located in the beautiful Sunshine Coast hinterland. The 'hinterland' means it's inland, away from the coast, usually with hills and forests.
The Story Behind the Name
How Landers Shoot Got Its Name
The name Landers Shoot comes from the early days of logging in the area. Back in 1861, a man named Edmund Lander leased land here. He and other early settlers were busy harvesting timber from the Blackall Range.
To get the huge logs down the steep hills, they used a clever method. They would strip the bark off the trees, which made them very slippery. Then, they'd sharpen one end of the log and push it down special tracks called "chutes." These chutes were on the eastern side of the cliffs.
The logs would slide all the way down to the bottom, where they could be collected and taken to sawmills. The area where the logs landed was known as "Lander's Chute." Over time, the name changed slightly to "Landers Shoot."
Early School Days
For a while, Landers Shoot even had its own school! The Lander's Shoot State School opened its doors on 17 February 1914. It helped educate the children of the timber workers and settlers. However, the school closed on 31 December 1944. It was located near what is now 471 Upper Landershute Road.
