Landquart is a town in the Landquart Region of Switzerland. It is located in the canton of Graubünden. Landquart was created on January 1, 2012. This happened when two smaller towns, Igis and Mastrils, joined together. The new town, Landquart, took its name from a part of the old Igis area.

A Look Back: Landquart's History
When Were Igis and Mastrils First Mentioned?
The town of Igis has a very long history. It was first written about around the year 840. Back then, it was called Ovinae or Aviuns. Later, its name changed a few times to Auuine, Huiuns, and Yges.
Mastrils is also an old settlement. It was first mentioned in official papers in 1318. At that time, it was known as Ponstrils. By 1345, its name had changed to Bastrils.
Landquart's Geography and Landscape
Landquart covers an area of about 7.98 square kilometers. A large part of this land, about 34.7%, is used for farming. Forests cover an even bigger part, around 45.5% of the area.
About 15.1% of Landquart is covered by buildings and roads. The remaining 4.8% is land that cannot be used for farming or building. Rivers and lakes also make up a small part of the town, covering about 55 hectares.

Landquart has a population of about 9,000 people. As of 2015, about 20.2% of the people living in Landquart were from other countries. The population has grown by about 6.47% between 2010 and 2015.
In 2015, children and teenagers (ages 0-19) made up 19.6% of the population. Adults (ages 20-64) were the largest group at 63.9%. Seniors (over 64 years old) made up 16.6% of the population.
There were 3,812 homes in Landquart in 2015. On average, each home had about 2.29 people living in it. Most of the buildings, about 60.2%, were single-family homes.

Important Historical Sites
Marschlins Castle and its grounds are very important. They are listed as a Swiss heritage site. This means they are protected because of their historical value. The castle belongs to the noble Salis-Marschlins family.
Other Castles to See
Besides Marschlins Castle, Landquart also has the ruins of Falkenstein Castle. You can explore what is left of this old castle.
Churches in Landquart
- The Roman Catholic Church of St. Fidelis was built in Landquart village in 1908.
- The Reformed church in Igis village looks as it does today because of changes made in 1486. The main entrance was also built in 1486. Some paintings inside are even older than 1486.
- The Church in Landquart village was built in the 20th century as the town grew. Construction started in 1925 and finished in 1926.
- There is also an Adventist Church located on Schulstrasse 76 in Landquart.
Hiking Adventures
The Prättigauer Höhenweg is a hiking trail that starts right at the Landquart railway station. It offers a great way to explore the beautiful natural surroundings. The trail ends in the town of Klosters.

Getting Around: Transportation in Landquart
Landquart has excellent train connections. There are three railway stations in the municipality: Landquart, Landquart Ried, and Igis.
These stations are on the Landquart–Thusis line. You can take trains from here to places like Disentis/Mustér, Scuol-Tarasp, Rhäzüns, and Schiers. The Swiss Federal Railways also connects Landquart to major cities like Basel SBB and Zürich Hauptbahnhof.
