Lanett is a city in Chambers County, Alabama, United States. It is located in eastern Alabama, near the Chattahoochee River. The city was originally called Bluffton.
In 2010, about 6,468 people lived in Lanett. By 2020, the population grew to 6,970 people. The city's name comes from Lafayette Lanier and Theodore Bennett. They were the founders of the West Point Manufacturing Company.
Where is Lanett Located?
Lanett is found on the eastern side of Chambers County. It sits at 32°51'48.326" North and 85°11'58.862" West. The eastern border of Lanett is the state line between Alabama and Georgia. The town of West Point, Georgia, is right next to Lanett on the Georgia side.
Interstate 85 runs along the southeast edge of Lanett. The city of Valley, Alabama, is across the highway. The Chattahoochee River also forms part of Lanett's eastern border. This river is the state line in that area.
The U.S. Census Bureau says Lanett covers about 16.1 square kilometers (6.2 square miles) of land. There is no water area within the city limits.
