History of Laporte
Laporte was started in 1901 and became a city in 1908. It was a busy place for a while. The city once had a train depot for trains. There was also a hotel, which was later replaced by a gas station.
Laporte had a bank too. In the 1930s, the bank was damaged by an explosion. There was also a pickle factory, but it burned down many years ago. The city even had a jail once. However, after one person managed to get out, all future prisoners were sent to Bemidji.
