Laremy Alexander Tunsil (born August 2, 1994) is a professional American football player. He plays as an offensive tackle for the Washington Commanders in the National Football League (NFL). Tunsil played college football for the Ole Miss Rebels. The Miami Dolphins chose him in the first round of the 2016 NFL draft. He later played for the Houston Texans and earned five Pro Bowls honors. In 2025, he joined the Commanders.

Early Life and High School Football

Laremy Tunsil was born on August 2, 1994, in Harvey, Louisiana. He grew up in Lake City, Florida. He went to Columbia High School. There, he played football and also competed in track and field. He was a shot putter.

Tunsil was a two-time All-State offensive lineman for his high school team, the Tigers. His coach, Brian Allen, said Tunsil was strong and had good skills. Tunsil helped his team run for many yards per game. In his senior year, Columbia High School reached the state quarterfinals. After the season, Tunsil played in the 2013 U.S. Army All-American Bowl.

Experts like Rivals.com thought Tunsil was a top player. They listed him as the best offensive tackle prospect in his class. Many major college football programs wanted him. Tunsil wanted to play right away as a freshman. He chose to commit to Ole Miss on National Signing Day.

College Football Career

Tunsil started playing for Ole Miss in 2013. He played in almost every game as a true freshman. He was one of only two true freshmen to be a full-time starting left tackle in the country. His first start was against Texas. He helped his team win and was named SEC Offensive Lineman of the Week. He allowed only one sack during his freshman season. He earned SEC All-Freshman honors.

In his second year, Tunsil started at left tackle in 11 games. He missed some games because of a bicep injury. He returned for the Peach Bowl. However, he broke his leg during the game. After the season, he was named All-SEC.

Before his junior season in 2015, Tunsil faced some challenges. He was suspended by the NCAA and missed the first seven games. He returned for the game against #15 Texas A&M. He played very well, not giving up any sacks. Ole Miss won the game. Even though he missed part of the season, he played strongly. In the Sugar Bowl, Tunsil even scored a two-yard rushing touchdown. Ole Miss won the Sugar Bowl 48–20.

Professional Football Career

After his college career, Tunsil decided to enter the 2016 NFL draft. Many experts thought he would be the first player chosen. They compared him to top offensive tackles. He performed very well at the NFL Combine. This made him seem like the top draft prospect.

However, on draft day, some unexpected things happened. A video appeared on his social media. This caused some teams to hesitate. The Miami Dolphins eventually selected him with the 13th overall pick. He was the highest offensive lineman chosen by the Dolphins since 2008.

Miami Dolphins

The Dolphins picked Tunsil as the 13th overall selection in the 2016 NFL Draft. On May 6, 2016, Tunsil signed a four-year contract with the Dolphins. As a rookie in 2016, Tunsil played in 14 games. He played mostly at the left guard position. He helped the Dolphins have a strong running offense.

After the 2016 season, Tunsil moved to the left tackle position. He played in 15 games in both the 2017 and 2018 seasons. He was named to the PFWA All-Rookie Team. In April 2019, the Dolphins extended his contract for another year.

Houston Texans

On August 31, 2019, Tunsil was traded to the Houston Texans. The Texans received Tunsil, Kenny Stills, and a fourth-round pick. In return, the Dolphins received two first-round picks and a second-round pick, along with two players. This trade was seen as a big gain for the Dolphins.

Tunsil started 14 games at left tackle for the Texans in 2019. He earned his first trip to the Pro Bowl. He was ranked 66th among the top 100 players in the NFL by his fellow players. In April 2020, Tunsil signed a new contract with the Texans. This made him one of the highest-paid offensive linemen. He played in 14 games in 2020 and earned his second Pro Bowl nomination. He was ranked 75th by his fellow players.

In October 2021, Tunsil had thumb surgery. He played in five games that season. In 2022, he started all 17 games. He was named to his third Pro Bowl. He was ranked 85th by his fellow players. In March 2023, Tunsil signed another contract extension with the Texans. He started 14 games in 2023, missing three due to a knee injury. He earned his fourth Pro Bowl honor. He was ranked 71st by his fellow players. In the 2024 season, Tunsil started all 17 regular season games and two playoff games. He earned his fifth Pro Bowl nomination.

Washington Commanders

On March 15, 2025, the Texans traded Tunsil to the Washington Commanders. The Commanders also received a fourth-round pick in the 2025 NFL draft. In exchange, the Texans received several draft picks from the Commanders.
