Larry Frank Cedar (born March 6, 1955) is an American actor who has appeared in movies, television shows, and video games. He is well known for being one of the main actors on the fun math show Square One TV, which was on PBS from 1987 to 1994. Many people also know him from the HBO series Deadwood, where he played a troubled card dealer named Leon.

Early Life and Education
Larry Cedar was on his way to becoming a lawyer after being accepted to law school. However, he decided to follow his passion for acting instead. He auditioned for the theater program at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and was accepted.
He graduated in 1978 with a Master of Fine Arts degree. While at UCLA, he won the Hugh O’Brian Acting Competition award for Best Actor. This award led to a contract with Universal Studios to help start his career.
Acting Career
Television and Film Roles
After graduating, Larry Cedar began appearing in many television shows and movies. One of his most memorable early roles was in Twilight Zone: The Movie. He played the creature on the airplane wing in the segment directed by George Miller. He also starred with Rebecca De Mornay in the movie Feds.
For six years, Cedar was a star on the PBS series Square One TV, where he played many different characters to help teach kids about math. He also starred in the kids' show A.J.'s Time Travelers.
Some of his other notable roles include:
- A recurring role as Leon in the popular HBO series Deadwood.
- Playing Cornelius Hawthorne, the father of Chevy Chase's character, in the comedy series Community.
- Appearing in the movie Hollywoodland with Ben Affleck and Diane Lane.
- Playing Principal Ben Sandborn in the 2010 movie The Crazies.
Voice Acting
Larry Cedar is also a talented voice actor. He has lent his voice to hundreds of commercials, cartoons, and video games. You might have heard his voice in animated shows like Freakazoid!, Pinky and the Brain, and Samurai Jack. He also voiced characters in video games like Marvel: Ultimate Alliance, where he played Loki, and Hitman: Absolution.
Stage and Theater
Besides his work on screen, Cedar is very active in theater. He has performed in many plays and musicals. He won a Los Angeles Ovation Award for Best Featured Actor in a Musical for his role in She Loves Me.
In 2013, he created and starred in a one-man show called Orwellian. The play was based on the famous books of author George Orwell, including Animal Farm and Nineteen Eighty-Four.
