Daniel Lawrence Whitney (born February 17, 1963) is an American comedian and actor. He is famous for his stage name, Larry the Cable Guy. He is known for his funny stand-up comedy shows.
Larry the Cable Guy was part of the Blue Collar Comedy Tour. This was a group of comedians including Bill Engvall, Ron White, and Jeff Foxworthy. He also voices the character Mater in the Cars movies from Disney/Pixar. His famous saying is "Git-R-Done!" which is also the title of his book.

Growing Up
Dan Whitney was born in Nebraska. He grew up on a large farm outside Pawnee City, Nebraska. His father was a Christian minister. Dan went to high school in West Palm Beach, Florida, where his father was a school principal.
He finished high school in 1982. Then, he went to college and studied drama and speech. He says his college roommates from Texas and Georgia helped him learn his famous Southern accent. He left college after his third year to try comedy.
His Comedy Career
Starting in Radio
Larry the Cable Guy began his career in radio in the early 1990s. He often appeared on popular radio shows across the country. He would share his funny stories and jokes with listeners.
Becoming Larry the Cable Guy
At first, Dan Whitney performed stand-up comedy using his real name. He didn't have much success. Then, he created the character "Larry the Cable Guy." This character has a typical "redneck" look and a strong Southern accent. He tells funny stories about his "family."
Larry the Cable Guy uses his famous saying, "Git-R-Done!" He also says, "Lord, I apologize for that, there, and be with the starvin' Pygmies in New Guinea. Amen," after telling a joke that might be a bit silly. After a really funny joke, he'll say, "I don't care who ya are, that's funny right there."
His first two comedy albums, Lord, I Apologize (2001) and The Right to Bare Arms (2005), sold very well. They were certified gold, meaning they sold over 500,000 copies.
Other Fun Projects
Larry the Cable Guy has done many other projects. In 2011, he started a travel show called Only in America with Larry the Cable Guy on the History Channel. In this show, he traveled around the United States. He explored different cultures and unique places. The show was very popular with millions of viewers.
In 2012, Disneyland's California Adventure theme park opened "Cars Land." It has a ride called "Mater's Junkyard Jamboree." Larry the Cable Guy provides the voice for Mater on this ride. He also appeared on The Masked Singer as the character "Baby."

Larry the Cable Guy is widely known for voicing Mater. Mater is the friendly tow truck in the Disney/Pixar Cars movies. He has voiced Mater in all three main Cars films. Giving Back
Dan and Cara Whitney started the "Git-R-Done Foundation" in 2009. This foundation helps people who are going through tough times. They wanted to give back to the community.
In 2010, Larry the Cable Guy gave $5 million to the Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children in Orlando, Florida. This money helped a special institute at the hospital. Their son, Wyatt, was treated there for a hip problem when he was a baby. Larry and Cara wanted to help other children. They also raised money for the hospital by appearing on TV shows like Family Feud and Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?. A new part of the hospital, called the Wyatt Whitney Wing, opened in 2012.
Larry the Cable Guy is a big fan of the Nebraska Cornhuskers football team. He often wears a camouflage hat with "HUSKERS" on it. His hometown of Pawnee City, Nebraska, even has a street named after him. He also helped his local high school by donating money for new theater equipment.
