Lawrence Olajuwon Timmons (born May 14, 1986) is a former American football player. He played as a linebacker in the National Football League (NFL). He was chosen by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the first round of the 2007 NFL draft. He won Super Bowl XLIII with the Steelers and also played in Super Bowl XLV. Before joining the NFL, he played college football for the Florida State Seminoles.

Early Life and High School Football
Lawrence Timmons grew up in Florence, South Carolina. He went to Wilson High School. There, he was a star in both football and track.
Football Success in High School
In football, Timmons played both tight end (on offense) and linebacker (on defense). During his senior year, he made over 150 tackles and had two sacks. He also caught 47 passes for over 800 yards and scored five touchdowns. These amazing stats earned him first-team all-state honors. He was also named Defensive Player of the Year.
Track and Field Achievements
Timmons was also a talented athlete in track & field. He competed in the long jump event. He was also part of relay teams. His speed was impressive, running the 40-yard dash in just 4.6 seconds.
Choosing a College Team
Experts saw Timmons as a top recruit. He was ranked among the best outside linebacker prospects in the country. After visiting several colleges, he decided to play for the Florida State Seminoles.
College Football Career
Timmons played for the Florida State Seminoles from 2004 to 2006. He quickly showed his skills on the field.
Freshman and Sophomore Years
In his first year, Timmons played in all 12 games. He mostly played on special teams and as a backup linebacker. He made 12 tackles. As a sophomore, he became a key player. He finished the year with 35 tackles and three quarterback sacks. His best game was against Virginia Tech, where he made eight tackles and two sacks.
Becoming a Starter
In his junior year, Timmons became the main starter at strongside linebacker. He had a very strong season, making 79 tackles and five sacks. He was recognized as an All-American and made the All-Atlantic Coast Conference first-team. He ended his college career with 126 tackles and eight sacks.

Pittsburgh Steelers Years
Timmons was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2007. He was the 15th player picked overall.
Rookie Season (2007)
As a rookie, Timmons played in all 16 regular-season games. He mostly played on special teams and as a backup. He made 13 tackles in his first year.
Super Bowl Champion (2008)
In 2008, Timmons moved to right inside linebacker. He played a bigger role on the team. He made his first career sack against the Baltimore Ravens. In Week 7, he had his best game with ten tackles and two sacks. He also got his first career start.
On November 30, he made his first career interception against the New England Patriots. The Steelers had a great season, reaching Super Bowl XLIII. Timmons helped his team win the Super Bowl by making five tackles. He finished the season with 65 tackles, 5 sacks, and one interception.

- 2016: In his final season with the Steelers, he recorded 114 tackles and 2.5 sacks. He also had two interceptions. He had a great playoff performance, making 14 tackles in two games.
Miami Dolphins (2017)
In 2017, Timmons signed a two-year contract with the Miami Dolphins. He played 14 games for the Dolphins, making 84 tackles. He was released by the Dolphins in March 2018.

Personal Life
Lawrence Timmons's middle name, Olajuwon, was given to him by his mother. She was a big basketball fan and named him after the famous NBA player Hakeem Olajuwon.
